The Magic Mix
I was skeptical about the Sacheu Peel Off Lip Liner Stay-N at first. Can you blame me? This product, which is marketed as a lip liner but can also be used as a lip stain, promises to last for hours and hours without budging. And on top of that, a peel-off lip product sounded like a gimmicky mess to me. But after seeing it literally all over the internet, I decided to give it a try—after all, I do love a long-lasting lip liner.
The Ingredients
The second I read that there was hyaluronic acid infused in the formula, I felt better about using it. (Something about a stain just sounded drying to me, so having this hydrating ingredient in it felt good to me.) Plus, there’s vitamin E in it, too, to serve as another powerhouse for hydration and protection; it’s found in all the good lip products on the market.
The Science Behind It
As for the ingredients that make it peelable and long-lasting, I tapped cosmetic chemist Laura Lam-Phaure for the low-down. “Polyvinyl alcohol is the ingredient that gives the formula its peelable effect,” she says. “It is a film-former that works by adhering to the lips, creating a flexible layer that can be peeled away once fully dry.” This film-forming property also enhances color payoff, she says, allowing pigments to stain the lips, effectively locking it in. When combined with a high concentration of pigments, it creates long-wearing, high-payoff lip stain.
Applying the Product
When applying, it goes on like a smooth gel—kind of like a lip mask, which shocked me because most stain beauty products are more of a liquidy texture. The applicator is a flat doe-foot so it’s precise when applying, which is key to getting a sharp and clean line. After I applied it, I let it dry. It took just over eight minutes for it to feel dry to the touch (patience is key here!). Personally, I’m an overliner, especially when I’m in between lip filler appointments like I am now—so I slightly went above and below my lip lines here. Once applied, it’s going to look, um, interesting. (Trust the process and let it dry down fully.) I gently peeled it off to reveal a budge-proof stain that stays put all day.
The Results
Don’t believe me? Look at the timestamps below:
- Taken at 12 PM after the gym
- Taken at 2 PM after having lunch
- Taken at 6 PM, after applying lipstick on top to give it a more “done up” look
- Taken at 10 PM after washing my face for the night
When I say this lasts, I mean it. I applied it in the morning, kissed my fiancé Matt goodbye as he left for work, drank my morning juice, went to the gym, ate lunch, and had a Diet Coke and a snack. Despite this, my lip line was still intact hours later—no reapplying necessary. It’s transfer-proof too, so I don’t have to worry about it rubbing off onto my Stanley straw, my face, or my Matt (bless). So when did it fade? Not until I scrubbed it off at 10 PM—impressive, I know.
The Hue Crew
The lip stain comes in seven shades, ranging from nudes to deep tones, but my absolute favorite is p-INKED, which is what I’m wearing here. It’s a vibrant mauve that makes my lips pop without looking over the top. It’s perfect for days at home, for which I’ll just layer it with some Aquaphor, or nights out for which I’ll throw lipstick over it.
Final Thoughts
I’ve used a lot of lip products, but I really don’t think I’ve ever used one as often as the Sacheu Peel Off Lip Liner Stay-N. If you’re tired of lip liners that fade within an hour or hate the hassle of touch-ups, this is 100% worth trying. It’s fun, it works, and the results speak for themselves. Plus, who doesn’t love a good peel-off moment? It’s super-satisfying every time.
